LSG FAQ's
Q:  Are your pieces made from machine tumbled glass?

A:  No. None of the glass I use is machine tumbled. All of the glass is collected from several beaches in Orange County and other than the hole that is drilled in the glass, it has been used as found.

Q:  What is the difference between ‘younger’ glass and ‘older’ glass?

A:  It has to do with age. The ‘older’ the glass…or the longer it has been in the sea, the more rounded it is giving it less angles and a smoother shape. ‘Younger’ glass, while having smooth edges and the burnished appearance, still retains the sharper angles and irregular shapes.
Q:  How old is the glass?

A:  It is hard to say exactly how old the glass is but experts believe that glass that has become more rounded, what I refer to as ‘older’ glass is probably at least 50 years old or older. The glass that I refer to as ‘younger’ glass probably ranges anywhere from a few years to about 50 years.

Q: Are there certain colors that are more rare or cost more than others?

A: Brown is by far the most common  color followed closely by Green and White (clear glass that has become opaque). These are most prevelant in most areas due to the fact that beer and soda bottles are generally brown, green and clear.

From there you get the Aqua’s, Blues, Reds, Yellows in descending order. These colors are all very rare…at least for us here in Orange County. In other parts of the country there seems to be more of these colors.
